Bench diagnosis of an XPC P91-3000 with a no-output complaint

A six-block battery string, charger readings and a load test separated battery failure from inverter failure

The P91-3000 is a 3,000 VA, 2,880 W online UPS with six internal 12 V 9 Ah blocks and the BP72 external-battery family. Equipment record: XPC P91-3000, companion identifier BP72. What the bench can reproduce

A shipped UPS arrives without the building distribution, upstream breaker history or protected load. The bench can still establish whether the internal string accepts charge, whether the DC bus is plausible, whether the inverter produces stable output and whether the unit carries a controlled resistance load. It cannot certify the original branch circuit or reproduce every site interaction.

For XPC P91-3000, the applicability boundary is anchored to 3000 VA, 2880 W and part BP72. One worked input remains an assumption until it is recorded at the equipment.

Six 12 V blocks establish a nominal 72 V series string. The 1,440 W bench point is 50 percent of the 2,880 W rating and stays below the 2,700 W column used for the published 3.2-minute runtime. The bench still records actual DC voltage and block spread instead of assuming that six labels guarantee a healthy string.

Checking the 72 V string before the inverter

The worked check uses nominal string voltage = 6 x 12 V; load fraction = 1,440 W / 2,880 W. With six 12 V blocks and a 1,440 W controlled load, the result is 72 VDC nominal and 50% UPS loading. A low or unstable string at charge must be resolved before an inverter conclusion is drawn. The arithmetic is reproducible, but it remains a design check until the listed inputs are confirmed at the equipment.

The 72 VDC nominal and 50% UPS loading result follows from nominal string voltage = 6 x 12 V; load fraction = 1,440 W / 2,880 W. If the 1440 W input changes, this check is repeated rather than carrying the earlier result into a different operating state.

Fault isolation in four electrical states

The first state is de-energized inspection. Battery swelling, damaged shipping hardware, loose high-current connectors or contaminated boards can end the test before AC is applied. Shipping damage is recorded separately from the reported no-output symptom.

The second and third states compare input-present charging with battery operation. Charger output, individual block voltage, DC-bus stability and event history separate a depleted string from a rectifier or charger condition. The inverter is not condemned while the DC source remains below its usable range.

The fourth state applies a controlled load and observes output voltage, frequency, temperature, alarms and return to line. A pass proves the tested bench state. Reinstallation still requires correct branch, neutral, grounding, bypass and load checks at the site.

The XPC P91-3000 decision retains part BP72, the 72 VDC nominal and 50% UPS loading calculation result and the manufacturer-published 3000 VA point in one equipment record. Applicable OEM instructions, qualified electrical authority and the installed single-line or wiring record remain controlling for any executable work.

Controlled load and transfer observations

Acceptance of XPC P91-3000 depends on five recorded checks:

  • Inspect the P91-3000 for shipping and high-current connection damage.
  • Measure all six internal block voltages and total string voltage before charge.
  • Record charger and DC-bus values with input present.
  • Apply the 1,440 W worked load and observe output voltage, frequency and alarms.
  • Transfer to battery for the approved interval, return to line and record recharge behaviour.

The XPC P91-3000 record is not accepted if part BP72 does not match, the calculation does not reproduce 72 VDC nominal and 50% UPS loading, or the final operating state is not recorded. The equipment returns to the approved safe state when a check stops, and the unresolved condition remains open without an invented repair result.

A bench result with a defined site limit

A valid bench diagnosis identifies the failing electrical stage and the exact test state. It does not convert a P91-3000 load-bank pass into certification of the original building circuit, BP72 installation or customer load.
